This blog is a new member benefit developed for the Port Credit Toastamasters club – an online speech repository.
Toastmasters is an excellent organization. However, there is one disadvantage and that is the ephemerality of our medium. We are the verbal equivalent of sidewalk chalk artists, whose work lasts only until the first rainfall. Toastmasters members may spend hours crafting a speech, and then as soon as it is delivered, it disappears into the ether. There is no enduring record of it, which is a shame because I think that most of our speeches are interesting, many are inspirational and some are truly masterpieces. In my opinion, our speeches certainly deserve more than a single audience.
Eventually we will build an impressive online speech library that I believe will serve as an inspiration to future members, and a way for current members to gain a larger audience for their speeches. When a member comes home after a meeting, and a family member ask how their speech went, they will be able to log in to our web site, show their family their personal speech library and say proudly “Take a look at my body of work!”.
